Salisbury men’s lacrosse off to hot start ahead of slew of ranked opponents

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University men’s lacrosse has started their season on the right foot: three road games, three big victories, outscoring opponents by an average of 15 goals across their first three contests.

“The team’s evolving into a group that, collectively, looks pretty strong enough in all the units,” said Head Coach Jim Berkman, “I think this team is pretty solid at every position and has good depth. I think we have more depth than we’ve had in recent years on defense, for sure.”

Defensive depth headlined by USA Lacrosse Preseason Defenseman of the Year, senior Bryce Stevenson.

“We’re starting to mesh, everyone’s starting to figure it out,” Stevenson said of the new additions on defense. “You know who’s gonna be where and you expect them to be there now, you don’t have to tell them where to be.”

Now in his second year at SU after transferring from Cabrini, senior attackman Connor Herraiz said their depth extends beyond the defensive side of the ball. “It’s a different offense from last year. Last year we relied on the top guys to produce,” noted Herraiz, who in 2025 was second on the team in points with 83, behind Brice Bromwell’s 113. “I think this year the big difference is that any guy can go out there and get a couple goals on any given day.”

The Sea Gulls haven’t lost a regular season game since 2023–the same season they took home their most recent NCAA Championhip–but the past two seasons have brought heartbreaking early exits in the NCAA tournament. The sour taste of recent postseason disappointment serves as extra motivation, but for a program with deep championship roots, the expectations set themselves. “That’s kind of an unspoken thing that doesn’t have to be said. That’s definitely in a lot of people’s gut, it’s still hanging there,” Coach Berkman said.

With the first few weeks of the season under their belt, Coach Berkman–with 13 national titles under his belt–once again sees championship potential in Salisbury men’s lacrosse: “Just like any other given year, I think everybody here believes that if we do what we’re supposed to do on any given day, we like our chances.”

Salisbury’s last regular season loss back in 2023 came at the hands of Gettysburg College. The 10th ranked Bullets will get another shot at the Sea Gulls this coming Saturday at noon at Sea Gull stadium.
