Progress Being Made on Wicomico Civic Center Construction
SALISBURY, Md. — Progress is being made on the construction of the Wicomico Civic Center. Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism expect the project to wrap up by the end of spring.
Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Director Steve Miller says winter weather has delayed progress slightly. “The challenge for us has been — we’re doing that project, which is now a $10 million project, replacing the roof, and we’re still running the building. We’re still running the business with construction going on, and that’s been one of the challenges, but we’re getting through it.”
Some updates include an expanded box office and lobby, a new dining area, and an outdoor canopy for events, which will be heated for the cold winter months. Guests will soon notice new security measures as well, including a physical barrier around the perimeter. Miller says that enhancing the safety of the event space has been a goal of theirs for some time now.
“For events that are here, I think they’ll be better. I think it will help us recruit new events and just get a really good aesthetic look to the building, in addition to all the other practical improvements.”
Miller said the project is the biggest investment made in the Civic Center since a fire destroyed the building in the 1970s. In the next six weeks, the event space’s logos and branding will get a makeover.
