UMES begins Black History Month festivities

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is hosting its annual Black History Month celebrations. It started festivities for the tradition.

Dr. Marla Frederick is the first Black woman to serve as Dean of Harvard Divinity School. She addressed the campus this afternoon at the student services center theater.

Her focus was enlightening the community about HBCU history, and serving as a beacon of light for young college students.

Dr. Frederick says the University is the best way to show students the history of the school and community.

“The students to appreciate the time they have here, and cultivate themselves to learn not only to build intellect but also character.”

Frederick became the 18th Dean of Harvard Divinity School in 2024, and also serves as a professor of Religion and Culture and African American Studies at Harvard University.
