Sussex Co. breaks ground for new behavioral health facility

On Wednesday morning, Delaware officials broke ground for the construction of a new behavioral health facility in Sussex County. The facility will be located on Route 404 in Georgetown. Officials tell 47 ABC a 93,000 square foot hospital with inpatient and outpatient service that will be operated by Sun Behavioral Health, a New Jersey based healthcare organization. This 25 million dollar facility will be two stories, have 90 beds, include recreational areas, and an outdoor courtyard.
During Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony, state officials tell us central and southern Delaware has been in need of a healthcare facility like this because many residents had to commute to two hours or more to receive specialized behavioral services.
“How starved they were for behavioral health services in the area and how far people were traveling for care and we recognized when people are traveling that far for care there are a lot of people that forego care, it’s too hard, too hard on the families,” says Steve Page, the Founder and CEO of Sun Behavioral Health.
The facility is expected to be completed by May 2018.
