Parkside triumphs over Bennett in double-overtime thriller
SALISBURY, Md. – Parkside boy’s basketball took down James M. Bennett 64-58 in double overtime in Salisbury Thursday night.
As the road team, Bennett started out hot, climbing to a 24-14 lead early in the second quarter thanks in part to nine first quarter points from Kaden Jacoby-Sample.
The Rams turned the tide in a hurry, though. From the six-minute mark of the second quarter, Parkside outscore the Clippers 13-2 to reach the break with a 27-26 lead.
Parkside would extend their lead to as many as nine points late in the third, ultimately reaching the fourth quarter with a 41-34 lead.
Bennett clawed their way back in the fourth, with Khiyen Tilghman stepping to the line with 10 seconds remaining and sending the game to overtime with a pair of free throws.
The Clippers owned a three-point lead late in the extra period, when Parkside’s Thomas Smith hit long ball that tied the game once again and extended the affair with a second overtime.
The Rams finally put it away with a step-back three from Javon Comegys, paired with clutch free throw shooting from the Junior guard. Comegys led the Rams offense with 25 points in the game, 11 of them coming in the two four-minute overtimes.
The win snaps a three-game skid for Parkside. The Rams will look to start a new streak when they go on the road to face Mardela at 6 p.m. on Friday.
