Ocean City officials preparing for massive upcoming snowstorm

OCEAN CITY, Md. – A massive snowstorm is expected to hit Delmarva and Ocean City. this weekend. Officials are preparing for the worst, and will be prepared for what’s ahead.

A warm January winter day will likely change this weekend, as experts say this storm will be dangerous. Paul Jarmon, a local resident, said that people are not used to the snowy conditions on the Eastern Shore.

“Yeah, it does stop them around here, because people are not used to it. I lived in Roanoke, Virginia for a while, and I’m a little more prepared for it than some of my family is.”

With the expected heavy snowstorm coming to the resort and the entire state,  Governor Wes Moore declared a state of preparedness ahead of the winter weather system. He says “The safety and security of our residents is our top priority. Please remain vigilant – listen to authorities – and use common sense,” said Governor Moore.

Alex Bean of the Ocean City Fire Department states they are ready for anything. “Our fire department is always prepared for an all-hazards response, so what we are doing is increasing the frequency for our maintenance of small tools that are susceptible to adverse weather effects.”

Bean adding that they have the proper staffing.

“Ocean City Fire Department is already up-staffed due to the closure of the Route 50 bridge, so we have additional crews in station already.”

For transportation services, transportation manager Rob Shearman Jr, hopes they are keeping a close eye on the weather. “So rarely do we call off service preemptively, we are going to react to the conditions as they happen.”

Local resident Paul Jarmon is also getting prepared for what’s ahead.

“We’ve already got out groceries early, and we are getting water and everything else to get ready to do this, because we know that we are not going to be able to get out.”
