Cambridge PD Urging Caution Ahead of Weekend Winter Storm
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – As we continue to monitor this winter storm, communities are starting to put their residents on notice.
First responders in Dorchester County aren’t taking any chances. That’s why they’re warning the community now, not just about the snowstorm, but the low temperatures and how those can create problems.
The Cambridge Police Department is seeing how this storm could affect response time even after the last flakes fall.
Police Chief, Justin Todd tells WMDT, “If we get, you know, upwards of 8 to 12in of snow or more, it’s going to create, issues, for police and EMS and fire to get to get anywhere.”
And dealing with below freezing temperatures means whatever we see on the Eastern Shore isn’t going away immediately; creating another hazard.
“Just because the roadway looks clear or you see the black, the blacktop on the roadway. It could definitely mean that there’s black ice and and it’s a sheet of ice,” says Chief Todd.
And that’s why first response agencies are urging people to make moves before the storm hits so roadways can be as clear as possible.
Chief Todd says, “For our citizens any time, you hear a forecast that, that’s a solid three inches or more, you need to plan to move your vehicles, especially if you’re on new snow emergency routes. Let the plows do the work. Let the emergency vehicles be able to get through.”
First response agencies, as well as Emergency Management in Dorchester County are closely monitoring the impacts of this winter storm.
