Discover Delmarva Arts: Sturgis One Room School
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Walk into the Sturgis One Room School in Pocomoke and it’ll be as if you’re walking into a time machine, going back to the early 1900s.
School board member, Miriam Cane said snapshots of back then hang on the walls, and desks sit in the middle of the school, where kids used to learn.
“We also have pictures of the first set of board members that we had; we have pictures of the students that were in the one room school, and at one time, there were probably 14 or 15 kids in one class,” said Miriam.
For folks who haven’t experienced this historical site, Miriam encourages them to stop by to see what being a student was like in the early 20th century.
“This is something that would make you think back to what you used to have, and what you have now, and I think more people would appreciate the schools that they have today, if they had to come to a one room school,” Miriam said.
