Elderly Man Tased After Refusing to Leave Cambridge Walmart

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) arrested a 74-year-old man after he refused to leave a Walmart on New Year’s Day.

On Jan. 1 at 9:07 p.m., officers responded to the Walmart on Dorchester Square after receiving a trespassing complaint from the store. Upon arrival on the scene, police contacted employees who reported a man, later identified as Anthony Howard Lee of Cambridge, had been sitting in the baby changing room for almost four hours and was refusing to leave.

Officers located Lee with multiple personal items scattered throughout the changing room. While police attempted to speak with Lee, he reportedly charged at them with an unlit lighter before attempting to barricade himself inside the room. Lee charged a second time with the lighter lit, and attempted to burn the officers. He then grabbed nearby canned food items and raised them in a threatening manner to throw at officers. Lee was instructed to put the items down, but refused to do so.

As a result, officers discharged a CPD Taser to subdue Lee and placed him under arrest without further incident. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center due to the taser deployment prior to being transported to CPD for processing. Lee was charged with trespassing on private property, failure to obey a lawful order, and three counts of second degree assault. He was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on a temporary commitment.
