time for some sports, and i’m coming to you live from cape henlopen high school where we are just about ready for kickoff as the vikings are set to face off against rivals sussex tech this is definitely going to be a big time matchup student sections ar fired up as you might expecte and should be a great game tomorrow, two of our field hockey teams will have the opportunity to write their names in the history books kent island and queen anne’s will be playing in a state title now while their roads to the championship have been much different.. their goal is now the same and its more than just celebrating a championship of their own kent island and queen anne’s one of the biggest rivalry on the shore but for now, two teams with one goal in mind nat pop “that’s all i’ve been thinking about. just to be able to say, i’m a state champion” the lions and bucs are preparing for their separate title games.. which means by the end of saturday, queen anne’s county might have not 1, but 2 state title teams “it’s crazy, i mean its such an amazing opportunity for both of us to be going into this. i mean, not very many teams get this far, so to have both be from queen anne’s county, it’s, pretty surreal.” for the bucs, 2016 has been a magical season, that almost no one expected not only are the bayside champs undefeated… but accomplished that, without a single senior on their team. “we are all good as individuals, but what really gets us winning is we work as a team, not just by ourselves.” one more win, would cap off a perfect season. 2 years ago kent island made the state title game, and also faced hereford the bucs came up short, but now have their shot at redemption “i feel that everyone is excited for this, but at the same time, it’s kind of who wants it more in the moment. the lions road to the title.. though different… has been just as memorable.. it’s kind of who wants it more in the moment. the lions road to the title.. though different… has been just as memorable.. claiming just their 2nd regional title, and now making their first championship appearance “i feel like we have definitely become stronger. it’s just like we are so excited. and we just like, we want it bad.” this seasons turnaround, really began, with how their last season ended nat pop “losing to pocomoke last year in regionals, we just, didn’t want to feel that again. and we just really wanted to, make our mark. and i definitely think we have so far.” 20 miles separate the schools, and just 120 minutes separate them from celebrating a county state title sweep “we both support each other and want each other to bring it back to the county.” “it would be just so cool for queen anne’s to win the state title, and kent island. the rivalry will always be there but at the end, we will always want the best for each others teams.” as for what you can look forward to for later on tonight we got just about everything covered queen anne’s takes on elkton in the first round of the state tournament, while kent island faces off against north caroline kent county makes the trip over to bo-manor, while cambridge plays host to perryville in delaware, it’s the battle for the bell as lake host milford, while woodbridge looks to wrap up a perfect regular season with a win against delmar we will be at each of those games, and have full highlights and a recap for oyu later on tonight that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page
