Meet Lisa Marie Penn, a local Ocean Pines resident who uses art to uplift community

OCEAN PINES, Md. – A special story about a local artist who uses her artwork to uplift people, especially during the holiday season. Meet Lisa Marie Penn, a Baltimore native who has helped those on the Eastern Shore.

“I’ve known that I was an artist ever since I could hold a crayon,” said Penn.

The Ocean Pines resident is being spotlighted by the Burley Oak Brewing Company Artist of the Month in Berlin. She said her father passing away at a young age gave her a sense of purpose in creating.

“I specialize in metal sea creatures, and I do a lot of fire department art work because my father was a Baltimore city fire fighter.”

When her father passed, she was only 24. She began painting his fire engine, and that’s when her art business launched. She left her position as a conductor for Amtrak, and made the move from Baltimore to the shore.

She unexpectedly had a child, and her life changed forever. She took her artistry seriously, and began using her passion as an outlet for creation.

“Being a single mother and artist is very challenging, because I spend hours upon hours of time in my studio painting, making my paintings come alive.”

She credits her creations as something she will always cherish. During the Christmas Holiday, her pieces get a bump, and her schedule becomes extremely busy.

“It’s Christmas season, this is my busiest time. I have been so busy sleeping maybe 5 hours a night, if I’m lucky between my full-time job and this.”

Her pieces are hanging in the taproom at Burley Oak and will be featured for the rest of the month.

She tells WMDT that anyone interested in buying or training, how to get in contact her, “My business name is Lisa Penn Art. I am on Facebook, and I have a website which is lisapennart.com

Lisa Marie Penn teaches painted screen workshops to pass down her art form to other creators. She also enjoys using her art to raise money for various charities.
