Rotary Club Gives Away Slow Cookers to Families in Need

(EASTON, Md) – Out in Easton the Tidewater Rotary Club has been busy trying to help fight food insecurity in Talbot County.

The Rotary Club came together at Easton Elementary School Tuesday to give out over 60 slow cookers with meal kits to families in need.

Rotary Club President, Steve Waltrich says they wanted to make sure kids in Talbot County aren’t going hungry when they aren’t in school.

“We are so delighted that this is happening right before Christmas. It’s our way of saying Merry Christmas to many of these families. And if you talk to or, you know, just watch people picking this stuff up. They’re delighted that this is, coming their way,” says Steve.

And the need to give away these slow cookers and meal kits to those who are struggling to keep food on the table is part of creating a healthier Talbot County.

Katherine Poe of the Talbot County Hunger Coalition tells us, “…And they’re reaching out into the schools and finding the families that really need this, I see that said, working families, particularly because this is something you come home to and got a meal or your kids come home and they have a meal when you’re not there.”

The Tidewater Rotary Club says they have been able to help over 200 families in Talbot County this year when it comes to tackling food insecurity.
