Former Wicomico County Health Department building plans
SALISBURY, Md. — The Wicomico County Health Department is on the move.
Plans are in place to relocate the department from the Hurdle Building on Main Street to the old Verizon building on Mount Hermon Road. County officials said this move will make the health department more of a one-stop shop and provide more parking. The county council is expected to vote on moving the building to surplus at Tuesday’s meeting. If the county chooses to move forward with a surplus, it does not mean the building has to go up for sale.
However, County Executive Julie Giordano said she is confident in moving forward with selling the building and is aiming to get the best value while also introducing a new business to town.
“I think there’s a business that’s interested in possibly coming down and looking at that building, so we have a lot of different ideas and with the landscape changing, we’ll be able to better serve our residents and constituents by moving the health department out. But it will add to the feeling downtown. So we’ll see what’s going to happen,” Giordano said.
Giordano added that the building will likely be put up for sale in the spring.
