Future of Kent County Transportation
KENT CO., Del– Enhancing transportation in Kent County, that’s the name of the game and a survey is being conducted to help officials craft a plan to do just that.
Whether its fixing potholes, changing bus routes or even repairing sidewalks, transportation officials want to hear what you think, needs to be improved.
Non-profits we spoke with say these improvements could help an undeserved population in the area.
“Some residents have jobs on the weekends and they can’t get to work because there’s no transportation,” says Cheryl Best-Wells, The Shepherd’s House Manager.
Local non-profits like The Shepherd’s Place say they’re glad this work is being done, because improving public transportation would ultimately help the homeless population.
The new long-range transportation plan the Metropolitan Planning Organization is writing will think about the present and the future of transportation in the county.
“Our long range plans goes for the next 20 years, so we’re asking people about things for right now as far as fixing existing roads building new roads, building new bike lanes, new sidewalks all of that kind of thing,” says Helen Wiles, Public Outreach Manager for the M.P.O.
The M.P.O. is collecting information from their online surveys to see how the future of transportation in Kent County can improve.
The survey covers many categories like bridge repairs, air quality, side walks, fixing old roads and creating new ones.
Wiles says the organization is aiming to get about 500 responses from the public by April and wants them to know their input makes a difference.
“What we are trying to do is to get more input from the general public to say this is my neighborhood, this is where I live so this is what’s important to me in getting from point A to point B”
Kent County residents can access this survey below and it only takes about 5 minutes.
