Cambridge Businesses Prepare for Small Business Saturday
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – As many of us are preparing for the Thanksgiving feast, in Dorchester County, local business owners are hoping to get their own piece of the pie this weekend.
Ricky Travers is a Dorchester County Council member; he’s also the owner of the long-standing Simmons Center Market on Race Street. So he knows all too well how important Small Business Saturday is to the city and county.
“For every person, every dollar spent on small business, it turns over, I think it’s three or three and a half times in the community. That’s big versus spending it online or out of town,” says Travers.
Simmons Center Market isn’t the only business gearing up for Small Business Saturday.
Main Street Cambridge is working with several local businesses this holiday season in an effort to keep those dollars in the community
“They’re the ones that are sponsoring, you know, your kids little league teams, your dance troupes, the community events, fundraisers that we’re having. So these folks, you know, without them, Main Street would not exist…” says Main Street Executive Director, Christina Wingate-Spence.
And WMDT got a chance to speak with a couple of other local businesses about bringing people in this weekend.
Malina Custom Leather Owner, Dennis Napolitan says, “I don’t do a lot of advertising. So most of it is word of mouth and something like this would be word of mouth. So that’s good.”
While Sarah Lyons just a few doors down at Vintage 414 says, “It’s just really nice to kind of see the community all come out to support other people who live and work in the community. So it’s a great place, you know, to start, especially when holiday shopping.”
