Two Milford Teens Arrested on Gun Charges after Making Threats
MILFORD, Del. – The Milford Police Department has arrested two teenagers in connection with gun threats made on Friday night.
At approximately 10:13 p.m. on Oct. 17, police received a call from three victims located in the 300 block of NW 2nd Street. They reported sitting in their vehicle when a SUV pulled up and a suspect exited the vehicle. The suspect pointed a handgun at one of the victims, and demanded that they exit the vehicle. The victims did not comply with their demands and instead drove away. Victims also told officers that there was a second suspect involved in the incident.
Through an investigation, police say they were able to identify a 17-year-old male as the first suspect in the incident, and subsequently secured a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody on Monday, Oct. 20, by a school resource officer at Milford High School.
After his arrest, police conducted a lawful search of his vehicle, which was located on the school property. Officers found ammunition and two handguns, both of which were without serial numbers.
The 17-year-old was arrested on a litany of felony gun charges, including three counts of possessing, purchasing, and controlling a firearm by a person under the age of 21. He was committed to the Delaware Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $69,500 cash bond. A no contact order was issued between the juvenile and victims in this investigation, including all schools and district offices of the Milford School District.
The juvenile was ordered to appear in the Kent County Family Court on Tuesday, Oct. 21 for a bail review hearing. The results of this hearing are not publicly available at this time.
Officers made a second arrest in connection to the incident, identifying 19-year-old Ivan Salez of Milford (pictured) as the other suspect in the case. He was taken into custody at his residence and charged with aggravated menacing and second degree conspiracy. He was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction in default of $5,000 cash bond. A no contact order was issued between him and the victims in this case.
Salez was ordered to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
