Nature Valley and Clif Bars recalled for listeria concerns
A local grocery chain says that it has pulled a several more granola bar products from sale, after they were recalled by manufacturers for possible listeria contamination. Giant Foods says they have removed some Nature Valley Bars products, and Clif Bar products for their shelves, because they are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The following products are included in this recall:
General Mills – Nature Valley Bars
- Nature Valley Protein Chewy Bar – Peanut/Almond/Dark Chocolate, 7.1 oz. (5 ct), UPC 1600045724
- Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar – Almond/Cashew/Sea Salt, 4.68 oz. (4 ct), UPC 1600046474
- Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar – Roasted Peanut & Honey, 4.68 oz. (4 ct), UPC 1600046475
Clif Bar & Company – Clif Bar
- Clif Bar – Sierra Trail Mix, 2.4 oz., UPC 72225216105 with a Lot Code Range of 05JUN16-24MAR17

Giant says they haven’t received any reports of illness at this time. Officials say that Listeria is a common organism found in nature, but that eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.
Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis, but according to Officials, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, and fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.
Those who have purchased any of the granola bar products listed above, should throw away any unused portions, and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
