Habitat for Humanity of Wicomic County offers a helping hand for plumbing access
SALISBURY, Md. — Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is offering help to those who need assistance with home maintenance.
Molly Hilligoss, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County, said, “It’s a two-year grant to our agency so that we can serve very low-income homeowners in Wicomico and Somerset counties who need significant plumbing repairs.”
Those low-income homeowners include anyone making less than $32,500 a year in Wicomico County. Program Manager Stephen Feliciano explained that kind of maintenance isn’t cheap, but this program is an important first step.
“I would ask what the issue is, where they’re having the issue, just to try to prequalify them based on the scope of work,” Feliciano said.
Homeowners may need documents such as Social Security statements or a W-2 to see if they qualify.
Feliciano said, “We have no problem addressing the issues you might have. And if we’re not able to do it, we’ll be honest with you — we can’t do it. But we have resources that we can direct you to.”
He said that many may be afraid to ask for help or don’t realize they qualify for assistance. “People have sleepless nights just dealing with basic essentials and necessities. And they’re very thankful. It’s for that reason — it’s why I do what I do.”
Hilligoss added, “We just really want folks to apply and let us take a look at their situation and see how we can help meet their needs.”
