Volunteers pack 2,500 food boxes for needy families
SELBYVILLE, Del. – More than 2,500 boxes packed with Christmas meals are on their way to families in need across Delmarva.
This was all a part of Mountaire Farms’ Thanksgiving at Christmas Event.
Nearly 200 people volunteered on Tuesday, helping pack boxes with things like chicken, corn, cranberries, brownie mix and more.
These boxes will now be distributed to families living in places like Salisbury, Queen Anne’s County and Dover.
“Mountaire Farms helps feed people,” said Cathy Bassett, Director of Communications at Mountaire Farms.
“That’s what we do, that’s what we’re in business to do, but we know that there’s a tremendous need on Delmarva, pockets of need everywhere and that’s what we’ve learned is there are hungry families out there and we want to be a part of the solution for that,” said Bassett.
The packing event come just weeks after Mountaire’s Thanksgiving For Thousands event, which was the company’s biggest event ever, with 20,000 boxes packed for families in need.
