DOVER, Del. – The Delaware State Police (DSP) have arrested a Dover man who was already in custody at Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) on burglary charges after connecting him to an additional, separate burglary on Wednesday.

The Dover Police Department (DPD) initially arrested 36-year-old Robert Young, Jr. on Thursday, Sept. 18 in connection with a burglary that took place earlier that morning. At approximately 2:54 a.m., police responded to a burglary alarm at Driftwood Spirits, a liquor store located on South Bradford Street. Upon arrival, officers found the front glass door to be shattered. A preliminary investigation revealed that multiple suspects broke the storefront glass to gain entry. Once inside, they removed several products and left.

Through this investigation, Young was identified as a suspect and taken into custody without incident. He was committed to SCI on $11,000 secured bail on charges of third degree burglary and second degree conspiracy.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, DSP arrested Young while he was still in custody at SCI. Authorities connected Young with a robbery that took place a week prior on Sept. 17. At approximately 7:57 a.m., troopers responded to Woodside Liquor Warehouse, located on South Dupont Highway, for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, police learned that overnight, an unknown suspect forced his way through a window and removed several bottles of liquor.

DSP says they collaborated with DPD to identify Young as the main suspect the burglary on Sept. 17. After obtaining a warrant, he was arrested by DSP on Wednesday on an additional count of third degree burglary. Young remains in custody at SCI.
