Sound Bites Tour Rolls On & Poplar Hill Mansion Turns 50

SALISBURY, Md. — This summer, Salisbury residents have enjoyed the Sound Bites Tour—a rotating series of live performances by some of the Eastern Shore’s most exciting local artists, hosted at your favorite breweries and eateries.

More than music. More than dinner. This is a music takeover.

The Sound Bites Tour blends vibrant sounds, bold flavors, and community spirit in a grassroots celebration of Salisbury’s local culture—all in support of the Maryland Folk Festival. Each stop on the tour is a one-night-only showcase featuring local music legends, rising stars, and unforgettable vibes at the city’s top spots for food and drink. A portion of all proceeds benefits the Maryland Folk Festival, helping to keep it free and full of flavor.

“Looking forward to the idea of changing venues, and to seeing added support for our great restaurants and retailers as an added benefit of each event taking us to different places,” said Mayor Randy Taylor. “Come on out for a great time!”

Also, the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce is having a ribbon cutting to celebrate our birthday. The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion, recognized as an official entity on August 25, 1975 at 8:30 a.m., are celebrating their 50th Anniversary, along with Poplar Hill Mansion as a museum for 50 years. Meet the Curator, Sarah Meyers and Chair of the Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion, David Scheid along with Board Members, Volunteers, and members of the City of Salisbury’s Arts, Business, and Culture Department (ABCD).

Learn how the Mansion became a museum, about those who worked tirelessly to preserve the house, about current preservation and restoration efforts, and about future exhibits, restoration, and reconstruction plans. Tour Poplar Hill Mansion and see the exhibits in each of the curated 19th rooms, the special exhibit “50 Years as a Museum” which contains photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia of the Mansion since becoming a museum in 1975, and the grounds which include a reconstructed Smokehouse exhibit and the restored Necessary.

SACC members can win one of several door prizes including a Poplar Hill Mansion Gift Basket or use of the Mansion for a Business Meeting at no cost and be entered to win a special Wine and Charcuterie Tour of Poplar Hill Mansion with the Curator, for you and 15 guests. As we celebrate becoming a museum in 1975, enjoy some light fare and drinks prepared by museum staff and volunteers of authentic recipes straight from the 1970s. Polynesian meatballs, Watergate Salad, pigs in a blanket, ambrosia, fondues, aspics, Harvey Wallbanger Cake, and more! We will also have wine and beer available to help with the taste of those aspics.

This is a free event with the Chamber of Commerce. The event is open to SACC members at 4 p.m. and opens to the general public at 5 p.m. Thank you in part to our generous sponsor for our 50th Anniversary year, Robert Nock Insurance also celebrating 50 years of serving Salisbury and surrounding areas.
