Md. Cannabis Panel cracks down on vape products

SALISBURY, Md – The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission is cracking down on vaporizers. Friday they issued a notice that bans any sale of THC vape cartridges that contain Vitamin E acetate, a substance recently linked to lung damage.

For Peninsula Alternative Health, a medicinal dispensary in Salisbury, the move forced them to temporarily pull some of the products they offer over the weekend.
“On Friday and parts of yesterday saw many of our vape products unavailable for sale, but as of today more than half of our products have been released,” said Anthony Darby, CEO of PAH.

Darby explained that he was hopeful the remaining products that had not been cleared by the state, would be released by the end of the week after they were tested. Although that did inconvenience PAH and their customers, Darby applauded the state for their move and placing a priority on patient safety.

“I think for our skeptical patients this is really great way of identifying safe products because they can look at the lab results and see that there’s absolutely no additives, no vitamin E acetate in their product,” Darby said.

Locals we spoke to agreed with the state move.

“As much as I’m against a lot of regulation, I think when you’re dealing with medical cannabis I think it’s absolutely imperative we make sure that a product that already has a stigma attached to it is safe for consumption,” said Kimberly Groves.  “You don’t want to know that you’re going to inhale something and then oh my gosh you’re going to end up in PRMC or shock trauma or wherever. So, I think it’s great that the state’s doing it and for all the right reasons.”
