Delaware Republicans Make Statement on Special Legislative Session
(DOVER, Del) – Delaware lawmakers met today for a special legislative session, regarding a process that hasn’t been done in decades.
Tuesday afternoon, they gathered at Legislative Hall to discuss the fist property tax reassessment the First State has seen in more than 40 years.
Lawmakers met to go over proposals to ensure school districts remain financially stable, while protecting property owners from tax hikes.
One Delaware Republican says there needs to be a limit in order to protect homeowners.
Delaware Representative, Jeff Spiegelman says, “The public is demanding these bills. Public is demanding that that they have to have some sort of limitation on the school district’s ability to do this. The school districts haven’t had the ability to raise this 10% in in 40 years. It’s more than that in some cases. So the idea that it’s taking money away from school districts.”
We reached out to lawmakers on the Democrat side of the state house, but were not able to get any comment.
