Searching for Shaquanna: Almost 3 months later, family, police still seeking answers in missing persons case
SALISBURY, Md. – 25-year-old Shaquanna Rutherford, known to many as Kita, has now been missing for almost three months.
One of her last sightings was at the Wawa on Route 13 South in Salisbury on May 18th. Her sister, Dynasha Seawright said she and her family have been searching for her ever since.
“We have had some leads that were not valid– they led us completely nowhere,” said Dynasha. “Some people have came forth and tried to say, basically, that she was dead, and her body was found; thank God that wasn’t true, because that was really scary for all of us.”
But Lieutenant Brandon Caton with the Salisbury Police Department said despite the rumors, they’ve been pursuing the investigation as a missing persons case.
“There’s no additional evidence that would make it anything else other than a missing person, right now. We’re still looking for any and all information anyone might have,” said Caton.
The Maryland State Police Dive Team searched the Wicomico River from Downtown Salisbury, all the way to the Wicomico Yacht Club in Eden, with no trace of Shaquanna.
That, coupled with the leads that are dying down, Caton said they’re still looking to fill the gaps in this investigation.
But Dynasha is hopeful that her sister is out there. She said any information that can lead her to Shaquanna should be passed on to police.
“Let the police do their job,” said Dynasha. “If anyone sees anything suspicious, or they have any relation to my sister’s case, please reach out to the police, because they can do better than we can.”
Caton said they’re focusing their search to West Salisbury. You can contact SPD at 410-548-3165.
