were talking sports, tray..the british open had it all this weekend. yeah michelle we’ve had our eyes on this thing since the ginning…and for good reason. it ‘s the third major on the tour. day one was a historic one…days two and three were just as intruginig…and the final round had an amazing finish. and coming into today, we knew this was a two-man race. phil mickelson and henrik stenson seperated themselves well from the pack and would duel in out thru the last 18 holes in scotland. early on it was mickleson with the lead, a beautiful approach shot on the first hole would get on to the green and almost go in. stenson bogeys hole one so mickleson’s your leader. but it would not take long for the sweed to take control. a 51-foot birdie attempt from the fringe and what do you know? it falls. stenson birdied five of the first eight holes and he walked on to 18 with a shot at history. and there it is. 10 birdies on the day in an amazing performance, he earned the claret jug today. 20 under is his final score, that ties jason day as the best ever in a major. “its a dream come true, as a young kid, well not that young i was 11 when i started playing. but you know it was ryder cup and the open championship, thos were big early memories that i had so to sit there and hold this trophy is pretty amazing.” eventhough they sit atop the american league east and have for some time, the baltimore orioles know that something has to give. whiler they do the league in home-runs, their starting pitching staff has been dismal. manager buck showalter attempted to give that rotation a jolt today sending reliever dylan bundy to the mound for his first career start. and quite frankly, the former shorebird started the game just about as bad as you can, with a 1-0 lead in the first, he sends a fastball right down the pipe, and evan longoria crushes it. bundy came in not allowing a run in his last 14 innings, yeah that streak is over. then in the second, with a man on oswaldo arcia sticks his bat out and that one is flying out as well. 3 homeruns given up by bundy in just 3 plus innings as the orioles fall today 5-2. zach efflin on the mound for the phillies looking to continue the hot start to his young career, but the old vet curtis granderson takes him out to right, the mets would take a 2-0 lead in the third. in the fifth now, efflin still out there, another vet jose reyes is going to the gap, relay throw not in time and new york leads 3-0. meanwhile the phils offense almost non-existent today, jacob degrom with a gem of a outing. complete game, one hit shutout–the phillies drop the last of the series 5-0. and the nationals were at home trying to sweep the series against pittsburgh today, max scherzer on the mound and max is just being max. gets the strikeout to end the fourth. scherzer had 6 strikeouts thru the first four innings. in the 6th the buccos get to him, sterling marte doubles hard down the third base line..adam frazier breaks the scoreless tie. it’d be 1-0 all the way to the bottom of the ninth, two outs two strikes and daniel murphy comes thru like he has so many times this year. puts that one over the fence to tie it up..as of right now, the score is still 1-1 in the 15th inning. look for the finish to that one tonight at 10 and 11. play of the day time, marlins and cardinals yesterday, big matt adams with a drive to right, looks like its going to get down but there’s a stallion down there, giancarlo stanton with a great effort. whats so impressive about this is that this guy is 6-foot-6, 250 pounds and has the ability to move like that, the home run derby champ gets our play of the day. that’s it for sports. keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc – delmarva’s trust source for news. catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com
