Lewes Majors outlast Mid-Sussex in District 3 Tournament
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Lewes prevailed over Mid-Sussex 2-1 in an extra-innings affair on Thursday in Georgetown, advancing in the Delaware Little League District 3 Majors Tournament.
Both starting pitchers–Dylan Deloy for Mid-Sussex and Ayden Jester for Lewes–held their opposition scoreless through three innings. It wasn’t until the top of the fourth when Lucca Fazio went deep to left field for a solo home run that either team got on the board.
Lewes led 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when an Ethan Baum RBI single brought home Bentley Hazzard and tied the game at 1 apiece.
Deloy struck out the side in the top of the sixth, giving Mid-Sussex a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the frame, and though they were able to load the bases with two outs, Mid-Sussex was unable to break through and the game went to extras.
Lewes scored in the top of the seventh on a fielder’s choice put in play by Ben Pease that brought home Phoenix Condon to take a 2-1 lead.
Mid-Sussex will play Woodbridge at 7 p.m. in Millsboro on Friday, July 11.
Still without a loss in the double elimination tournament, Lewes will play Nanticoke at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 in Georgetown.
