DELMAR, Md. – Ground-based sparkling devices are to blame for a garage fire on July 4th in Delmar, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Fire crews responded to the home on Bi-State Boulevard around 9:52 p.m. The one-story detached garage was burned, with the flames causing around $2,500 in damage. Investigators say the fire was accidental and was sparked by improperly disposed of sparklers.

Investigators say this incident is a good reminder to ensure such devices are cool before throwing them away. They suggest submerging the sparkler devices in water before discarding.
