Dover and Georgetown teens arrested for carjacking, attempted theft in Smyrna
SMYRNA, Del. – Two juveniles are facing felony charges after police say they were involved in an armed carjacking.
On July 3rd around 6:00 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to Berry Drive. Police say the victim gave a ride to two Black males to Holly Hill Estates. As they approached the area, police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim, while the other held him against his seat and the pair demanded the keys to the vehicle.
The victim gave the keys to the suspects and got out of the vehicle, and the pair got away, police say. Shortly later, Dover Police spotted the stolen vehicle traveling through the city and puled it over. The two suspects were identified as a 17-year-old male from Georgetown and a 14-year-old male from Dover. They were both arrested, and police say they recovered a gun and ammunition from the vehicle.
While investigating the carjacking, troopers responded to a report or an attempted vehicle theft that had occurred overnight on Cedar Court in Smyrna. Police say the two suspects involved in the previous case had broken into the victim’s vehicle and attempted to steal it. The vehicle’s rear passenger window was shattered and the ignition ripped out, according to police. Investigators believe the pair were trying to use a USB cable and screwdriver to steal the vehicle.
Both suspects are being held on bond.
