Berlin Ghost Museum brings the fun and the scares
BERLIN, Md. – A new attraction has opened in Berlin, offering community members a chance to explore local paranormal activity.
Ivy Wells, Berlin’s economic and community development director, said the new space will foster greater community engagement.
“We’re so excited the ghost museum is here. It’s a spirited addition to downtown Berlin, where many entrepreneurs want to open businesses, but space is limited. So, we’re taking underutilized spaces and being innovative with them,” Wells said.
Founded in 2024, the Ghost Museum brings history to the community. Jessica Ader, a staff member at the museum, explains that the museum aims to both educate and entertain.
“Our goal for the museum is to take visitors through the history of ghost folklore and how spiritualism has developed since the advent of the daguerreotype in photography,” Ader said.
The museum is located at 11 Pitts Street in Berlin. Visitors can access the space by climbing a staircase and passing through ominous curtains. The museum follows a rule: “No phones; no elevators.”
When the museum opened in late June, there were days when 200 people visited, according to Ader.
“Our sister business is a mermaid attraction located at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets, so we were hoping those visitors would come here, and we were met with great success,” Ader said.
Wells believes the museum will be a lasting attraction.
“We hope the ghost museum lasts a very long time here and continues to haunt Berlin for generations to come,” she said.
