UPDATE: Swimming advisory lifted in Rehoboth Beach
UPDATE on July 4th, 2025: DNREC has lifted the swimming advisory. A re-test was conducted on July 3rd, followed by a 24-hour lab test. The water sample from Rehoboth Avenue was found to be below the standard for recreational contact.
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A swimming advisory has been put in place for the Rehoboth Avenue area in Rehoboth Beach. According to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), fecal indicator bacteria results were above the recreational water quality standard.
The high result is likely the result of heavy rainfall and resulting runoff in recent days, according to DNREC. Historical data shows that water quality conditions can change quickly at ocean beaches.
The elevated levels were found during routine sampling. Individuals with certain medical conditions or compromised immune systems are at the highest risk of becoming ill from the bacteria, according to DNREC. If you are unsure of your risk factor, DNREC recommends consulting with your doctor.
The advisory will be lifted once indicator bacteria levels are below the standard. For more information, click here.
