Shorebirds dig early hole, fall to Mudcats
SALISBURY, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds dropped game three of their nine-game home stand 9-3 on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium at the hands of the Carolina Mudcats.
The Shorebirds fell behind early, giving up four runs in a top of the first inning that included three hits, two errors from shortstop Joshua Liranzo, and a walk. Starting pitcher Evan Yates left the game after recording two outs, replaced by Devin Kirby who struck out Jesús Made to end the long first frame.
Delmarva trailed 7-0 by the time Liranzo recorded the team’s first hit in the bottom of the third inning.
A late rally would get the Shorebirds on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 9th, but it was far from enough to overcome the nine-run lead built by the Mudcats.
After taking the first game of the series with a 13-run explosion, the Shorebirds have now dropped two in a row. They return for game four of the six-game series on Friday, June 27th at 7:05 p.m.
