Temporary traffic pattern planned ahead of weekend tournament

A major sports complex is preparing to host its first tournament this weekend at its Frederica facility.
The DE Turf Sports Complex, located on 4000 Bay Road, is expected to rake in 18 million dollars in economic activity and jobs to the Delaware economy.
The first tournament is expected to host about 85 teams on the weekend of April 15, according to executive director Chris Giacomucci. With traffic anticipated from tournaments this year, he says officials are eyeing traffic patterns.
Giacomucci tells 47ABC the South Frederica overpass project, which sits across the street from the facility, is scheduled to be completed spring 2018.
Complex officials say they are working with DelDot and Delaware State Police on traffic patterns during large tournaments in the meantime. Patterns will include blocking off intersections, so travelers can drive down Thompsonville Road next to the projected overpass.
We’re told temporary blockades would take place in the morning to allow traffic to come in and out of the complex with ease.
“We had a downhill meeting in February with the town of Frederica and concerned citizens regarding it,” says Giacomucci. “We’re really confident in our traffic pattern and again, it’s just to get us through year one.”
Officials plan to hold the official grand opening ribbon-cutting for the DE Turf Sports Complex on May 13.
