City of Salisbury to resurface park tennis court
SALISBURY, Md. – The city of Salisbury is giving its tennis court a face lift.
For Mayor Randy Taylor, it’s more than just a tennis court, it’s a spot that he spent many years perfecting his craft and met other tennis lovers who eventually turned into longtime friends and playing partners.
“It’s a great asset to the park. Every day you go down there it’s full, from early in the spring, to late in the fall, and sometimes in the winter,” said Mayor Taylor.
“There’s a dedicated group of players down there, so it’s certainly an asset to the park and certainly to the city, so we really want to keep it in good condition,” he added.
The court has experienced some wear and tear over the years and is now due for a resurfacing. Crews will start the project on Friday are expected to wrap up in mid-July.
Executive director of Salisbury Wicomico Economic Development, David Ryan said preserving the court helps keep its unique features.
“It’s somewhat cooler than most tennis courts, because you have a lot of trees around there and rarely do you see that,” said Ryan.
And for those tennis fanatics eager to play on the new and improved court, Ryan said it’ll be worth the wait.
“It’s a good time to find another court to play on and come back on brand new courts. It’ll be refreshed, it’ll coincide with the refreshing of the entire park,” said Ryan.
