The town of Berlin will keep the same tax rate after approved 2026 Fiscal Year budget

BERLIN, Md. – The town of Berlin will not increase its tax rate under its new budget. The rate is $0.8275 per $100 dollars of assessed value.

The rate discussion largely revolved around revenue adjustments for other expenses. Things like fire services, and compensating long-tenured staff.

Berlin Mayor Zach Tyndall said it took a lot of collaboration to get a budget passed without impacting residents.

“Would lead us to think, okay we can’t always adopt a flat tax, we might have to hedge that in future fiscal years. Some of that is healthcare costs from COVID, and some of that is inflationary pressures that we are seeing across the board.”

Mayor Tyndall has called the budget balanced. He told WMDT, the town is in the best financial position it has ever been.
