CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Dorchester County Public Schools is looking to start upgrading the district’s elementary schools.

The school district recently held a town hall to discuss the findings of its Ed Spec process, saying they’re aiming at providing more equity for students.

Assistant Superintendent Michael Collins tells us the county also needs to build new elementary schools.

“…But five of our elementary schools were built back in the 70s, and they had an open space design; So they don’t have classroom doors per se. And of course, some of them don’t even have, you know, central air, fresh air coming in. So what we wanted to do was revisit all of our elementary school, open space programs, and redesign them to make them more suitable for students learning today,” says Collins.

Collins tells us that planning needs to happen now with the long term goal of opening a new elementary school building in the next five years.
