Milford girl’s lacrosse pulls away from Concord in 2nd half
MILFORD, Del. – Milford girl’s lacrosse went up big then held off a comeback attempt versus Concord to win 19-8 on Monday in Milford.
The Raiders opened up a 2-0 lead early in the 1st quarter, before Milford responded with 3 goals of their own. The first period of play came to a close with the Bucs up 4-3 in a tightly contested game.
The 2nd quarter saw Milford take an 11-3 lead, marking a run of 8 unanswered goals before the Raiders recorded a goal of their own to make the score 11-4 at half.
The game slowed down in the 3rd quarter, with Concord steadily cutting what was once an 8-goal deficit to just 4 at 11-7, with 4 minutes to play in the quarter.
From that point the Buccaneers would put their foot back on the gas, outscoring the Raiders 8-1 over the remaining 16 minutes of game time, for a final score of 19-8.
Offensively, Concord relied on the efforts of Lucy Gray, who scored 7 goals in the game.
Milford’s offense ran through junior Isabelle Betts, who recorded 9 goals on the afternoon. Two other Bucs finished with 5 points: Hannah Zimmerman (4 goals, 1 assist) and Bailey Masten (2 goals, 3 assists).
