Oil truck catches fire in Delaware

An oil truck caught fire early Saturday morning heading southbound on Route One near Bear, Del. The driver, 53 year-old Virgil M. Patterson was reportedly approaching School House Road when he heard a loud noise.

Smoke began filling the cab of the truck where Patterson was seated. Police say he then pulled the truck over, which was filled with 1000 gallons of engine oil, and it caught fire.

Patterson tried to hold off flames until local firefighters arrived on the scene. No one was injured from the fire, although traffic was heavily impacted for over three hours, according to authorities.
