New safe driving campaign hits Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Drive like your child lives here – that’s the message from Georgetown Police.

It’s all part of a new campaign by the department aimed at making roadways safer for children.

Detective Joey Melvin with the department tells 47 ABC that right now, the signs are up in school zones but soon the signs will be spread throughout Georgetown.

And you may be thinking, that message on the signs is unique. It is! And Detective Melvin says that’s because these signs are supposed to hit home.

“As people we appreciate they have busy lives or headed to work they’re focused on a lot of things, and this specific message, drive like your child lives here, is just kind of something that will catch their attention really quickly, make them reflect on their personal life, their family, people they care about,” Detective Melvin said.

Detective Melvin tells 47 ABC that the department will start a social media campaign soon and added that anyone interested in getting a sign for their property can contact the department.
