NY man charged in connection to store robbery in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a New York man Tuesday afternoon after he and another suspect tried to steal clothing from the Macy’s store at the Dover mall.

According to officials, just after 4:30 p.m., 20-year-old Joel Cordero and an unknown male suspect were confronted by store security after they reportedly left with $2,825 worth of clothing items. The suspects then fought with the employee, causing minor injuries to the employee. The unidentified suspect then fled in a white Lexus with two other people inside the vehicle, while Cordero was taken into custody.

Police later learned that Cordero was wanted out of New Jersey on similar charges.

Cordero was charged with second degree robbery, second degree conspiracy, and third degree assault, and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $5,500 bond on the new charges as well as on a “Fugitive from Another State” charge for his warrants in New Jersey.
