The new Cambridge City Council is ready to start a new chapter

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge City Council was sworn in at the Dorchester Elks Lodge on Pine Street. Mayor Lajan Cephas alongside 5 commissioners are ready for the next chapter in Cambridge. Ward 2 Commissioner Shay Lewis-Sisco understands the responsibility that comes with the new role. “I’m nervous, yet excited. I think this is a monumental occasion.”

Cambridge is getting ready to flip the page, Mayor Lajan Cephas and Commissioners Brett Summers, Shay Lewis-Sisco, Frank Stout, Sputty Cephas, and Brian Roche
are prepared to face the city’s problems head-on.

One of Lewis Sisco’s goals is to initiate more youth involvement in the community. “In Ward 2, we have a lot of youth in our subsidized communities, and just having a housing space in the city for them to engage beyond normal business hours is important.”

Ward 1 Commissioner Brett Summers has his fair share of goals to get done. Prioritizing the renovation of the city hall building. “We need to get city hall renovated, get city hall back to our historic building. I think we need to hire an architect to start that process.”

All the commissioners are excited to work alongside Mayor Cephas. Summers believes Mayor Cephas is the right person for the job.

“I think she’s worked well in the past with the people in the state of Maryland in Annapolis, and that’s always important. I think she connects well with the community and will create the right vision for the city of Cambridge.”
