Weather Tidbits: Various Winter Weather Warnings
This edition of Weather Tidbits discusses different types of winter weather warnings. One type of warning you may see during the winter is an Ice Storm Warning. An Ice Storm Warning is issued when a coating of at least 0.25″ of ice is expected. The ice may be as high as 0.5″ if winds are less than 15 mph. Another example is a Winter Storm Warning. This is issued when 8.0″ or more of snow is expected for 12 hours or more. Lesser amounts of snow can be forecast for mixed precipitation. A Blizzard Warning is issued when falling or blowing snow reduces the visibility to less than a quarter of a mile with winds up to 35 mph for 3 hours or more. One last example is a Wind Chill Warning, which is issued when wind chill values are expected to fall to negative 25 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
