Adopt-A-Block unveils new facility to public

SALISBURY, Md. – For over a year, people have been waiting to see the Adopt-A-Block facility come to life.

The organization itself was birthed out of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, and Pastor Mark Bunting said they started the drive to uplift local neighborhoods.

“We started with the Church Street community, with just 1 block, and what we wanted to do was show a consistency to the community, that we love them and we’re here for them,” Bunting said. “It started with just adopting one set of homes on 1 particular block and that turned into 2 blocks and 3 blocks.”

With a central hub in the heart of Salisbury, executive director, Danielle Roach said they’ll be able to expand operations and offer even more free resources and services to anyone in need.

“We have our Bread of Life Market, which is a retail choice pantry where folks will be able to come in and shop for free food of their choice, that fits their personal needs and dietary restrictions,” Roach said. “We also will offer programming and workshops, and we have meeting spaces and a classroom to welcome other community organizations that come in that share our mission.”

While it’s the volunteers that make outreach happen, Roach said it’s their mission that brought all of this to life.

“Find a need, fill it. Find a hurt, heal it. That’s what we’re here to do, is just love on people with Christ-like compassion,” Roach said. “To feed them physically and also to endeavor, to fill any needs they may have. We’re excited to open our doors and our arms to the community.”
