Sussex EMS expanding services in Milton

SUSSEX CO., Del. – EMS services are expanding to Milton, which may help get people to the hospital faster.

The county’s EMS partnered with the CHEER Center in Milton because they saw there was an increase in the number of calls there. Officials say it takes longer to get to patients in the Milton area because of the traffic there. But before the services can officially start on January 1st, officials say they still have quite a bit of work to do.

“So the lease will start, we are hoping, on October 1st. And over the next 60 days following that we will be able to retrofit that area and get computer services working, work with our IT department, get everything ready for that, get a vehicle secured, get the facilities for the vehicles secured, get electric for the vehicle so it can be plugged in when it’s not out on the road,” says Robbie Murray, the deputy director of administration for Sussex County EMS.

Sussex County EMS says they’ll use equipment they already have to reduce costs. Officials also tell 47 ABC, they currently have open positions that they will start to fill in late September or early October. Once those are filled, they will look at any staffing needs that Milton might have.
