MD Humanities hosts One Maryland One Book Panel for Haiti native Myriam J.A. Chancy
SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland Humanities, hosted the One Maryland, One Book Panel for Myriam J.A. Chancy at the Museum of Eastern Shore Culture.
The Haiti native is known for her book, ‘What Storm, What Thunder.’ The book focuses on Haitian culture and the 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince that impacted the nation. From the perspectives of 10 characters, readers can explore themes of poverty, race, rebirth, and loss.
Salisbury has seen a recent influx of immigrants from Haiti. Chancy believes this story will resonate with the local community.
“This is something that can enlighten people about Haiti, and the conditions in Haiti since the earthquake. However, it can also help people not from Haiti learn about Haiti and take it back to their own stories or what’s going on in their lives. Hopefully, help cope with what they have to grapple with loss heal.”
You can find ‘What Storm, What Thunder‘ online or at your local library.
