Sussex Conservation District set to give away native trees for a giveaway Saturday
GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Sussex Conservation District’s mission is to prepare, protect, and preserve. They will distribute 700 native trees on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Vanderwende-Evans Conservation Center.
This is part of the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative plan, a comprehensive plan by Delaware to respond to climate change.
The TEDI plan, to date, has planted over 240,000 trees. SCD, Communications, and Outreach Specialist, Siobhan Kelley said, trees do so much more for the community.
“The trees are native, so they are great because they do support the local ecosystem and wildlife, they absorb runoff and help fight climate change.”
Six tree species will be available in one- and three-gallon sizes. Those include red maple, sweet bay magnolia, and tulip poplar among others.
