UPDATE: Lewes boil water advisory lifted
8/21 UPDATE: The boil water advisory has been lifted.
Officials say test results came back clear. Some areas on the beach side of the city may still experience periods of low water pressure, as one of the canal crossing water mains remains out of service due to the break.
4:45 p.m. UPDATE: The Lewes Board of Public Works has released more information regarding the city’s water.
We’re told that the city also experienced a 12″ water main break on one of the canal crossings. That section of water main has been isolated and a dive team is scheduled to be onsite Wednesday to assess and potentially fix the main break.
The boil water notice remains in effect.
LEWES, Del. – The City of Lewes has issued a Boil Water Advisory for residents.
We’re told this is due to a drop in pressure as a result of a treatment plant issue, causing a loss of positive water pressure in our distribution system. This means there are existing conditions that could allow contamination to enter through back-flow by back-pressure or back-siphonage. As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.
Residents should not drink the water without boiling it first. Water should be brought to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using. Officials urge residents to use bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
