Local dog trainer helps turn four legged friends into success stories

SALISBURY, Md. – “Tally is definitely a miracle worker. We are thrilled to have him,” said pet owner Joyce Dunn.

When you talk to most dog owners they often tell you their pet is their child, and just another member of the family. But what do you do when you’re beloved furbaby doesn’t play so well with others?

“He used to be very afraid of everything and his response when he was afraid was to bite. He got a hold of our vet, he got a hold of our previous trainer,” said pet owner Marly Morgan.

Well look no further because Tally Jackson is taking a new approach to dog training and is turning these four legged friends into success stories.

“Our dog is very confident, but so am I. I know he’s not going to hurt anybody. He’s like a miracle worker. And we’re so excited to say that Ramsy doesn’t bite people, he’s not afraid of things that he used to be afraid of,” said Dunn.

And it’s Jackson’s unique approach to both these dogs and their owners that sets him apart from the others. He tells 47 ABC he prides himself on building confidence within the owners first, and putting dogs in real life situations.

“That’s why I brought it to Salisbury, there’s no other trainers here dealing with aggression issues or taking the dogs out in public like they need to,” said Jackson.

The classes are completely outside, and owners who work with Jackson tell 47 ABC the difference between how their dog first acted and how they are now is like night and day.

“He kind of stopped being friendly and he would bark at people, he would bark at dogs, he started to get into more dog fights at the dog park. He’s a much better dog now,” said pet owner Erin McGreal.

Jackson adds that his method of using treats and negative reinforcement as well helps dogs know the difference between a consequence and a reward. And ultimately helps these dogs remain a loyal family member to their pack for years to come.

“Having their dogs be able to be a part of the family and go out with them places and be there when family members come over, it’s important,” said Jackson.
