Smokey Bears 80th Birthday Usfs 2048x1075

DOVER, Del. – For 80 years, Smokey Bear has reminded generations of Americans that “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires.” First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney, Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse, State Librarian Dr. Annie Norman, the Delaware Forest Service, Delaware children, and other guests will celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday at the Dover Public Library.

Since the beginning of the year, the Delaware Forest Service has partnered with Delaware Libraries to encourage youth, through the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge, to participate in reading about wildfire prevention, forests, and natural resource careers while they explore their local environment, which complements this year’s summer reading program theme of “Adventure Begins at Your Library!”

This event is set to take place at The Dover Public Library during story time on August 9th, 2024.
