Governor John Carney signs two new bills for Governors Day at Delaware State Fair
HARRINGTON, Del. – It was Governors Day at the Delaware State Fair and Delaware Governor John Carney said this day is a celebration of community.
“Governors day at the fair, is the opportunity for me, the governor of the state, to celebrate our number one industry, to celebrate our families, and children, and adults involved in that.”
Governor Carney, spent most of the day touring different exhibits, and he even signed a couple of bills that he said are important to the entire state of Delaware.
“When you talk about agriculture in Delaware, we’re talking about family farmers, it’s not just an industry, a business, it’s a way of life.”
Both bills, are set to be huge for the agriculture business in the state, one is for dairy production and the other is for crop insurance coverage. Secretary of Delaware Agriculture, Michael Scuse, said this begins the lifeline to keep the industry moving forward.“Again it’s to improve our overall environment and it’s gonna help us someday produce a nice income for our land owners.” Said Scuse.
Governor Carney also received a plaque for planting over a million trees in his time as the governor. Scuse said this wouldn’t have been possible without pushing the agriculture initiative“Try to plant as many trees as we possibly can over a short 4-5 year period of time, to help him that legacy to plant over a million trees in that period of time.”
Governor Carney said he’s excited about the future of the young people in our state, as he said, the next generation is the future. “We’re talking about really productive activities of our young people, it really bodes well for the future of our state.”
