Wicomico County Public Library provides free meals for children
MARYLAND – The Wicomico County Public Library is expanding minds and stomachs. All summer long they are offering a free lunch for the children of the community.
Any children under the age of 18 are welcome to come to the library from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. to get a meal. Library official Karen Earp told reporters that t for some, this is the only meal they will eat. She said some of these children live in shelters around the area, but the bulk of them, unfortunately, are unhoused.
Mackenzie Powell and her 15-month-old son Micah came to the library today for story time and found out about the meals. She let us know how important this opportunity is for the community. “We love to come every week for him to listen to stories, and they sing songs… We learned the library has free lunches, which is, I think perfect for the community, and for children, especially in the summertime. Parents don’t have to worry about feeding them which is nice and then he’s full and we can go home and take a lovely nap!”
The library says they want to feed as many children as possible this summer. They ask the public to donate bottled water to Wicomico County’s Public Library-Paul. S. Sarbanes Branch during normal library hours to help hydrate the community.
